When it comes to protecting our oceans and coastlines, it’s a team effort, and at Surfrider Foundation Australia, we’re lucky to have legends like Pablo & Rusty’s in our corner.
Pablo & Rusty’s have been part of the Surfrider family for a few years now and their impact has been nothing short of inspiring. From supporting critical campaigns like our Southern Sea protection efforts against oil and gas drilling to rolling up their sleeves to clean up plastic pollution off Sydney’s Northern Beaches, they’ve been alongside us to support critical work. And, of course, their support also helps us do the less glamorous (but absolutely vital) stuff like keeping the lights on and ensuring we have the resources to fight for our oceans when they need our protection.
During Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Pablo & Rusty’s donated 10 per cent of revenue (not profit) directly to Surfrider to help fund our ongoing work. Thanks to this incredible donation, here’s what we’ve been able to achieve together:
Parliamentary delegation
Your support covered travel costs to bring our national campaigns director and passionate branch volunteers to Federal Parliament. They met face-to-face with key politicians to advocate for the permanent ban of PEP11 and to pressure for the protection of our oceans from harmful seismic testing projects like TGS. Only weeks after this pivotal visit, PEP11 was formally rejected. That victory belongs to all of us, including you, the P&R Coffee Community.
Expert advice
Your donation helped us pay a small wage to a team of marine scientists who used their expertise to submit strong scientific rebuttals against new oil and gas proposals in the Southern Ocean, including a worrying project near King Island in Tasmania. Their voices added critical weight to our fight and so far, have helped us keep the project unapproved.
Branch support
Pablo & Rusty’s are also helping fuel the incredible work of our volunteer branches across Australia. These legends give up their weekends and evenings to protect their local beaches, run campaigns, and clean up our coastline and your support helps make that possible. And it doesn’t stop there. The Pablo & Rusty’s team also joined forces with our Northern Beaches branch for a hands-on beach clean-up event in Manly. Together, they cleared rubbish from the coastline and learned more about the hidden problem of microplastics and the damage they do to our ocean ecosystems. Pablo & Rusty’s have also been incredibly generous with sharing their products with us, providing prizes for community events and raffles as well as keeping our beach clean ups well-caffeinated!
