It’s back: Choc-Berry Milkshake
It’s Phil here (Head of Coffee at Pablo & Rusty’s) with exciting news: our Choc-Berry Milkshake blend is back for another year! You won’t want to miss this fun, tasty blend with notes of chocolate, vanilla and berries (and this year it’s even more limited).
In this article, I’ll share some tips and ideas to get your Choc-Berry Milkshake blend tasting its best.
When we’re onto something good, well, we can’t help bringing it back…
We first launched our seasonal Choc-Berry Milkshake in 2024 and it flew off the shelves.
As the Head of Coffee, I can tell you we have so many delicious coffees coming through the roastery – so why would we bring a blend back for another season? Well, we said it in 2024 and we’ll say it again: Sometimes, we come across a coffee that is so impressive and interesting that we need to find a way to share it with as many people as possible.
This season, our Choc-Berry Milkshake Blend combines a unique honey-processed coffee from Papua New Guinea, a ripe, acidic and sweet coffee from Colombia and another co-fermented honey-processed coffee from Colombia. The result will have you teleported back to your childhood, drinking milkshakes from your local milk bar.
How to enjoy Choc-Berry Milkshake
The Choc-Berry Milkshake blend is perfect for those that love a milky coffee – flat whites, lattes, cappuccinos. Although it tastes great black too. Depending on how you enjoy your coffee, it’ll bring out different tasting notes:
Tasting notes (black): Raspberry, Lime, Strawberry, Cola
Tasting notes (milk): Milk chocolate, Vanilla, Berries, Caramel
For those that like it milky
The name’s a giveaway, Choc-Berry Milkshake mixes with milk extremely well. The chocolate flavours and berry notes pair perfectly with the creaminess of the milk, teleporting you back to your childhood sipping on a milkshake from your local milk bar.
With chocolate already being the dominating flavour in a lot of popular milk blends (I’m looking at you Porter St) we wanted to offer something a little different for our regulars. Berries! Who doesn't love a berry, right? When mixed with the delicious chocolate that you get from roasted coffee and a touch of vanilla from the milk, you can see how we got to Choc-Berry Milkshake.
For those that like to drink it milky, like me, here are a few tips.
Full cream milk is best. It gives it that extra sweetness and creaminess. If you want to give it another little sweet kick, try adding a splash of lactose-free milk to your jug. Just 10–20% of the total milk volume will give it a noticeable boost in sweetness, adding a rich, luxurious finish that takes it to the next level.
Maintain an extraction recipe that doesn’t overpromote acidity. For example, if the extraction runs too fast (15 seconds) you may get some under extraction and have a more sour or acidic experience – this doesn’t work as well with milk. We find a ratio of around 1:1.25 is the best starting point with an extraction time of 27 - 29 seconds. This allows as much of the flavour and sweetness possible in the cup.
Brew it to your liking. Here’s the sweet spot for us (but feel free to send in the recipes that work for you):
A shot of around 22g (that’s espresso shot by weight, which usually translates to one side of a double spout).
Around 150 ml of well stretched micro foam at 60C.
Pair it with ice cream. If you really want to have a good time, add a scoop of your favourite ice cream (vanilla, strawberry or chocolate work best… or all three?) Pour the coffee over the top and enjoy the delicious mess it creates.
There really isn’t a wrong way to enjoy our Choc-Berry Milk Blend, as long as it brings you joy, you’re doing it right. We hope these tips and ideas help you step back in time with us, to those simpler days when drinking a milkshake was the highlight of your day…
Don’t forget, this is a limited edition blend, so get it while it lasts.
