La Toboba Farm spans 8 hectares and was passed down from Senel’s grandmother to his father (also named Senel). The farm derives its name from the Toboba snake, which is commonly found during harvests, but is harmless and is always relocated to the nearby forest. The farm began coffee production in 1968, and the earnings from it sustained the family’s livelihood. Over time, the farm has expanded to cultivate various coffee varieties, each having its own designated section.
In 2016, La Toboba built its micro-mill to process cherries immediately after picking. The cherries undergo a thorough cleaning process and are separated using a floater separation tank. African beds are used to dry the coffee parchment for three to five days, with the cherries being raked and churned several times a day to ensure even drying. The coffee is then placed in a greenhouse and piled up, with the pile being moved every six hours to slowly dry it to a moisture level between 9-11%. This process can take up to 35 days, after which the coffee rests for two to three months before undergoing dry-milling and sorting.
La Toboba Farm’s attention to detail and commitment to quality is evident in every stage of its coffee production process.

Frequently asked questions
-
What is a Single Origin?
Single origin coffee refers to coffee beans sourced from a single specific geographic region or farm, emphasizing their unique flavour profile and traceability.
-
What is a Filter Single Origin?
This is when we specifically adjust the temperature when we roast the coffee to suit filter style brewing methods. However, there are no rules, so feel free to use filter roast coffee with your own style of brewing.
-
Are Filter Single Origins good to use with manual tools only?
There are no rules on when/how to brew your coffee. Roast profiles such as espresso and filter roast are specifically temperature adjusted to how light or dark we roast them for preferred brewing methods, however, we encourage you to brew any way you desire! Filter roast coffees can be used for V60, Pour over, Aeropress, stovetop, plunger etc.
-
How can I store my coffee?
We recommend storing your coffee in a cool, dry space out of direct sunlight such as a pantry. You're able to keep your beans in your hopper on top of your grinder ready to grind or keep them in the bag. Our bags are nitrogen flushed to help keep your coffee fresher for longer, however, once you open the bag and the beans are exposed to oxygen, your coffee will naturally start its aging process.
-
There is a particular Single Origin I purchased, however, I no longer see it online?
We like to rotate our Single Origin offerings as we purchase limited amounts each season to showcase the many other amazing Single Origins around the world. It's likely we'll purchase from the same lot/origin again, so keep your eyes open.
