Burundi has perfect conditions to grow high quality coffee. Volcanic soils, high altitude and a dry harvest season helps to produce this coffee. Kibingo is the name given to the washing station here and means ‘reeds’ because of the reeds planted along the river to contain the water help stop the soil from eroding. Near the border to Rwanda, this area also hosts one of the key watersheds that feeds the Nile river. Although the coffee here comes from over 3500 farmers, the lots are separated into quality to. Ensure those with a higher cup quality are rewarded appropriately.
